2010 Team Awards

Lou Munroe MVP - Pete Smith - Pete was named 2nd team All NESCAC again this year and led us in ground balls.  Pete is one of the toughest players I've ever had the pleasure to coach and had a great senior year for us finishing second on the team in points.  The thing that most people don't know about Pete outside of our team is that he played through a serious shoulder injury for the middle part of the season and has played with a broken rib for the past month. He's an unbelievable competitor, his determination and physical play will be missed next year.

Ric Rosbeck MIP - Peter Jennings (soph) - Jenno played a big role in a number of our big wins this year including Wesleyan early in the season, our Amherst playoff game and then against RPI.  His teammates all praised his work ethic and his play not only in games but how competitive he was in practice every day.

Baggataway - Bart Witmer -  Bart's transformation this year was remarkable.  He went from someone who at times used to look like he was afraid of making a mistake to the guy who was playing harder and with more confidence than just about anyone on the field.  The energy and passion he displayed for our team this year went a long way into galvanizing this team by the end of the year.

I also want to say something about the rest of our graduating seniors.

Russ Banker - Russ battled injuries in the first three years with the program but settled into a role this year on the 2nd midfield line.  He came out to practice every day with a great attitude and as I mentioned in my last email, had a big game against RPI in the 2nd round of NCAA's.   The smile on Russ' face and the excitement shown by his teammates after the plays he made in the RPI game was pretty amazing.

Jeff Begin - An all around good kid and good athlete.  Due to injuries and personnel issues was bounced back and forth between offensive and defensive middie this year.       He was always ready to do what was best for the team and his teammates took notice.

Brad Forkner - Brad was our 4th defenseman this year and played on our man down unit as well.  He started a few games for us along the way and played a big time role in our win over Amherst in the NESCAC playoffs. In that game he filled in for Matt Rayner who was out with a sprained ankle.  Brad came up with some momentum changing ground balls that day and helped lead the comeback over the Jeffs.

Jack Masur - Jack started for part of the year at attack and carried us in our win over Trinity.  He also gave us a spark against Goucher in the NCAA playoffs.  Jack was always ready when his number was called whether it be to start a game or come off the bench.

Charlie Schopp - We matched Charlie up with the opposing team's top attackman all year long and he did a tremendous job for us.  He's as good of an on-ball defender as we've had at close defense and a tough kid.

Chris Teves - Chris ran on our first midfield line the past three years and has been a consistent performer for us all along.  He really turned it on for us down the stretch and played his best lacrosse these past few games by scoring some big goals and helping our offense perform at a high level.  Chris was one of the vocal leaders on the team this year and we'll miss his presence in the huddle next year for sure.

Matt Virtue - Matt has been on the field for us for 4 years as a short stick d middie and he had by far his best season this year.  He was an excellent on-ball defender and always did a nice job getting the ball from box to box.

Losing these 9 guys is going to leave some big holes on the team but we have a great freshman class coming in and hopefully some of our young talent rises to the occasion next year.
