Just a quick wrap up of our last game of the season here for all of you who didn't get a chance to see the game live or online.

Wesleyan played a great game, I don't think it would be a stretch to say they played their best game of the season on Saturday.  I give their players and coaches a ton of credit for getting themselves ready to play that game and for earning home field advantage for the NCAA playoffs.  Wesleyan came out with a lot of energy and opened up an early lead off of a few quick goals both in 6v6 as well as in unsettled situations.  (I haven't had a chance to view the game film yet but this is all from what I recall)

We certainly had some opportunities early to make plays off of face off wins and in our own unsettled situations but their goalie made some big saves early and that got us on our heels a bit. 

Our guys were definitely playing hard from the start of the game but it just seemed that Wesleyan made all the plays they needed to in the first half.

Whether it be a ground ball, a big save or a quick outlet that led to a fast break, they were clicking. 

We came out and played better in the second half, Palmo made a few big saves to give us some momentum but we simply ran out of time and had spotted the Cardinals too big of a lead in the first half. Not surprisingly our guys battled until the end and made the score respectable but Wesleyan was the better team on Saturday.

Yesterday the team got together and voted on our post season awards.  Junior midfielder Rory "twig" Sanborn won the Ric Rosbeck most improved player award after having a nice season for us in the midfield.  Rory is one of the hardest workers on our team and went from being a guy who saw little playing time as a sophomore to filling a huge role for us this year on offense. 

Alex Palmisano won the Lou Monroe MVP award after having a great season between the pipes for us.  If any of you had the chance to see Alex play in the NESCAC playoffs you'll know why he won this award.  Finally the guy that Alex barely edged out for the MVP award ended up winning the Baggattaway "spirit and leadership" award and that went to Peter Mellen.  Peter Mellen is the guy you remember playing lacrosse with at Middlebury, he epitomized the quiet confidence that our teams have always brought with them each time they step on the field.  He brought a blue collar work ethic to our team and inspired his teammates with the heart he displayed day in and day out.  On top of the leadership by example that he provided for his teammates, he was also one of the best vocal leaders I've seen in my brief coaching career. 

Tomorrow is a big day in Middlebury, Peter Kohn's annual pizza party for the team.  I'm heading over there now to flip through a few photo albums and to confiscate any incriminating photos of myself, I can do the same for any of you for a small fee......
