We earned another hard fought NESCAC win up in
Waterville on Saturday against the Mules and extended our winning streak to six
games. With the win we also secured a NESCAC Quarterfinal home game this
Saturday.
After taking an early 4-2 lead after the first
quarter, Colby battled back to make it 6-5 at the half. Their goalie
played a great game and made some outstanding saves in the first half to allow
Colby to hang around and eventually take the lead. They extended their
lead to 7-5 in the third before we went on an 8 goal run sparked by Henry Riehl and Tim Giarrusso.
Both scored big goals by getting into the paint and finishing in tight.
We're fortunate to have so many guys on our team capable of stepping up
and scoring a big goal when our opponent has gained some momentum. It
also makes us difficult to defend when you need to stop Tim Giarrusso,
Henry Riehl, Jack Gould, Kyle Soroka,
and Jon Broome in those moments. All of them have scored some big time
goals for us this year, hopefully they still have plenty left in the rest of
the way! Once Henry and Tim stuck those shots, the goal got bigger and
our shots started to fall. On a day where John Jackson won over 90% of
his draws, we were able to play make it-take it for most of the half.
The game ball went to senior Miller Steinle who brought us home in the goal and made a few great saves in his first career playing time. Miller has been an outstanding teammate and a leader for us this spring. He brings a ton of energy to practice each day and you can tell how much his teammates appreciate him by how loud they were cheering when he got into the game on Saturday.
