Wow, wild one down in Williamstown last night! My heart is racing even as I think about the last quarter of the game. It's a great feeling to bring the Thomsen Trophy back to VT! Thanks to Coach Grube for sharing his thoughts on what the Thomsen family and the trophy mean to our program.

With the win we were able to clinch the #1 seed in the NESCAC tourney and now have another match up with Amherst on Saturday. Williams ended the year 3-7 in the league with 5 of those losses coming by a goal, both equaling our totals from a year ago. For any of you watching the game online yesterday, you saw that Williams had a dangerous and well coached lacrosse team this year. The reality is that our league schedule is unforgiving and there's no room for error as you go through the ten game slate. I was very impressed with how the Williams team competed last night; they certainly gave us all we could handle.

As I mentioned in my follow up after the Colby game, our guys are playing with a ton of confidence on offense right now. Our balanced scoring and the different ways we're able to attack a defense have made us pretty difficult to defend lately, hopefully that continues on Saturday! Our attack unit is starting to gel and had a great game against the Ephs. Stew Kerr (3g) is getting back into a groove and playing at a very high level. The game has slowed down for Mike Giordano (3g,2a) as he's making great decisions and putting himself in the right spot at the right time. Then you have Jon Broome (1g, 2a) who finishes with "only" three points but does so many little things well that the defense is always worried about him with or without the ball in his stick.

In the midfield, Erich Pfeffer had two more big goals for us including our 14th of the day as Williams was turning up the heat in the fourth quarter. Then there was Andrew Metros. Met won the game ball for his four goal and one assist performance and was a dominant presence on the field last night. He gave us no choice with the game ball when he scored the game winner with twelve seconds to go. Coming out of the timeout we had a play drawn up to get the ball to someone else but our timing was off so Met called his own number. Even though he was covered by the pole he decided not to use the on ball pick we had set up for him, split back to his left, and uncorked a high to low shot that found the back of the net.

The two other guys I should mention are Brian Foster and Darric White. Brian had a terrific day facing off as he got plenty of work and finished 19 for 29 with a number of those won to himself. It was great to have Darric back in the lineup as well, he finished with a goal and 9gb's. If you watch one of our games online or in person, it won't take you long to find #37 out there as he's in the middle of a lot of plays.

I'm not going too waste much time getting into how Williams got back into the game but credit them for making a bunch of plays down the stretch and also to the officials for giving them a few extra opportunities that they were able to take advantage of…;)

Now it's time to get ready for the Lord Jeffs on Saturday. These guys have as much talent as anyone in the league on offense and are a well-coached group overall. We play very different styles so it will be interesting to see how things play out this weekend. Hopefully the boys are ready to go!
