We took another one on the chin yesterday up in Waterville, ME.  Credit Colby for playing hard, having a tough team and executing their game plan.  The story of the day was their face off specialist, Craig Bunker.  He's by far the best we've seen so far this year and will be the best in our league.  We only won 6 of 21 face offs on the day and threw every look we had at him.    He got them off to a fast start as he won the opening draw to himself for a fast break and stuck a shot from 9 yards out for the 1-0 lead.   Colby would go on to lead the rest of the way leading by as much as 7-2 in the 2nd half.

I expected to see a hungrier team show up in blue yesterday after the loss last weekend and a good week of practice, was very surprised to see a flat performance in the 1st half.  Our guys battled back in the 2nd half and made a game out of it.  However, the score was 9-5 with 4 minutes to go before we rattled off 3 goals in under a minute.  At that point senior Bart Witmer stepped up and stuck a shot from about 10 yards out.  Peter Jennings then won the ensuing face off to himself for a break and gave it up to Jack Balaban for the score.  On the following possession it was Chris Teves who dished it inside to Balaban again to cut the lead to 9-8 with just under 3 minutes to play.   We ended up getting two more possessions on offense, one of which ended in Pete Smith hitting their goalie in the foot on the doorstep.  We had our chances to tie it up and perhaps even steal the game but at the end of the day we didn't make enough plays.

This week we enter a long home stand with Amherst on Wednesday and Bowdoin in town on Saturday.  As a reminder, we have our 45+ alumni game vs. Bowdoin on Saturday at 9am.   Hopefully we'll see many of you up here next weekend!
